PENINSULA SHIPBUILDING CO - PORTLAND (OREGON)

Bellfounder Desappeared
Towards the end of WWI, contracts were placed by the U.S.S.B. for over 1000 wooden ships and barges, but most of the contracts were cancelled and only 589 ships were completed. Many incomplete ships were converted to barges, but many more were scrapped on the ways and/or burnt. Most of those completed were sold for scrap after the war and many were, in fact, scrapped, but many were simply abandoned to rot. http://shipbuildinghistory.com (06-04-2022)
Peninsula Shipbuilding produced wooden ships between 1917 / 1920.
